WHAT IS MASSAGE?:Massage Theapy is the manipulation of muscle and connective tissue to enhance the function of those tissues and promote relaxation and well-being. Therapeutic massage can ease tension and reduce pain. Massage can be a part of physical therapy or practiced on its own. It can also be highly effective for reducing the symptoms of arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other disorders of the muscles and/or nervous system.
Massage Therapy is considered to be among the oldest of all treatments used by man. Chinese records dating back 3,000 years documented its use. The ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians used forms of massage therapy for some ailments and Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems. It has proven beneficial to many chronic conditions such as neck and low back pain, arthritis, and bursitis, fibromyalgia, migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, myofascial pain, and leg pain.
ADDITIONALLY:
*Massage relieves the stress from everyday living.
*Calms the nervous system and increases circulation, which boosts energy and alertness.
*Increases joint and muscle flexibility, and your well-being.
*Treats underlying causes of symptoms.
*Changes soft tissue memory.
Taking care of your body should be at the top of your priorities. Massage therapy stretches and loosens tight muscles. It also prevents further formation of adhesions, freeing your range of motion and reducing the danger of muscle inflammation.
Prior to your therapeutic massage session, you will be asked questions regarding your medical history, physical condition and lifestyle. Your problem areas may be assessed by observing your posture, restricted and painful movements, and gentle palpitations of tender areas.
There are medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable. It is imperative that you inform DeeEtte Bruns LMT of any health problems or medications you are taking.
Therapy often allows emotions to surface. This may happen during a session, or several hours later. This is your body's way of releasing. Always welcome this positive experience. Allow yourself to express these feelings of emotions which may include laughter, anger, or tears.
